Quidditch is the most popular sport in the wizarding world. Two teams, each consisting of seven players flying on brooms, compete against each other, the game is played with four balls. The sport is also very popular among Hogwarts students.
Unfortunately, playing Quidditch in Hogwarts Legacy will not be possible. Here’s why, and what the chances are of a Quidditch DLC adding the sport as an afterthought.
Can You Play Quidditch in Hogwarts Legacy?
Quidditch cannot be played in Hogwarts Legacy. The FAQ on the game’s official website states:
Quidditch is not playable in Hogwarts Legacy. However, broom flight for traversal and broom race challenges are part of the game. Players can also fly brooms to explore new and familiar locations surrounding Hogwarts Castle.
HogwartsLegacy.comHowever, Hogwarts Legacy doesn’t do without the Quidditch theme entirely, because you can enter the Quidditch pitch outside the walls of Hogwarts or fly through it with a broom. Of course, the broom is also an important means of transport outside of the Quidditch stadium. You can use the broom to explore the open world of Hogwarts Legacy. Broom upgrades and cosmetic customizations are available for purchase at the broom shop in Hogsmeade for added convenience.
Why Isn’t Quidditch in the Game?
There is an explanation in Hogwarts Legacy lore as to why Quidditch cannot be played. During the preview event in January 2023, participants could also enter the Quidditch pitch. There are some students standing around and a Hufflepuff student says:
Professor Black was terrible before he decided to cancel Quidditch. That decision was the icing on the Cauldron Cake if you ask me.
Professor Phineas Nigellus Black is the headmaster of Hogwarts in Hogwarts Legacy. He is considered pompous and disinterested. According to Black voice actor Simon Pegg, he was the most unpopular headmaster in Hogwarts history who only took the job because of the prestigious position. So it suits his character to forbid Hogwarts students to play Quidditch.
Even outside of the Hogwarts legacy lore, there is an explanation as to why Quidditch didn’t make it into the game. According to German gaming magazine GameStar (via YouTube ), the developers simply couldn’t implement it in terms of resources. They had to decide where to put the workforce. It was probably too expensive to really bring Quidditch as a complete game to Hogwarts Legacy, according to Gamestar.
Is There Be a Quidditch DLC For Hogwarts Legacy?
It could be possible that Quidditch will come later as a DLC in Hogwarts Legacy, maybe even together with a multiplayer mode. However, this has not yet been officially confirmed.
In January 2023, a major leak made the rounds (via Twitter ). It said, among other things, that the Hogwarts Legacy game folder was created in 2017 and originally contained Quidditch. All four Quidditch positions (Chaser, Keeper, Beater, Seeker) should have been supported. A year later, however, the issue was abandoned.
So Quidditch seems to have been intended for Hogwarts Legacy at one point. However, the developers just don’t seem to have had enough time to turn it into a proper mini-game for release. So a Quidditch DLC could actually be in the realm of possibility.
