LEWISTON, Idaho (CBS2) — The Lewiston Police Department (LPD) said goodbye to K9 Marta on Wednesday with a police procession befitting an officer of her service.
Marta has served in the Lewiston Police since 2013 and has been an instrumental part of the narcotics team. LPD says she served the people of Lewiston, the department and the city, assisting in hundreds of arrests and convictions over her decade-long career.
K9 Marta was a beloved member of the LPD. Marta lived with her partner, Sgt. Reese, and his family since she joined. Marta developed an aggressive cancerous tumor that made it necessary to put her to rest, according to a release by the LPD.
On Wednesday afternoon, as Sgt. Reese arrived at the vet hospital with Marta, members of the LPD gave her a sendoff befitting an officer of her service. A police procession led her vehicle to the vet hospital.
Sgt. Reese carried her in as officers lined the route in one final display of honor.
