BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — The Ada County Elections office is ensuring voters have the information they need to clarify and make them comfortable when they cast their ballots. Ada County Clerk Trent Tripple and Elections Director Saul Seyer were available to answer questions about deadlines, election integrity, data points, and any other information voters might need to acknowledge.
With approximately 300,000 registered voters, Tripple says the elections office estimates between 100 thousand to 120 thousand people will be voting in this election. This estimation comes in part from the seven thousand early votes cast, as well as the 20,000 absentee ballots requested, with a 33% rate of return so far. Tripple says, "So, you can see, if the trends continue with early voting and absentee returns, we'll be expecting around 70 to 80 thousand of our closest friends to show up on Tuesday to cast votes."
Tripple also says you shouldn't worry about voting waiting times as there are 197 precincts and 176 polling locations.
The safety of voters' ballots is taken seriously by the elections office, with new ways of protecting against voter fraud. Saul Seyer says, "When those come in, we validate the numbers to make sure that we do have them properly accounted for in terms of ballots that went out and ballots that came back."
The elections office is also using a new security measure, basically a large lock box, that will be used to lock up and transport ballots and machines on voting day.
The Elections Office recommends those who requested absentee ballots to mail their votes in the Friday before so it gets in on time to be counted. If you miss that date, you can drop your ballot off in person or a ballot drop box.
