The state Department of Education will begin free bus service on Thursday for Lahainaluna High students to their temporary school site at the Kulanihako’i High School campus in Kihei.
Lahainaluna teachers and staff began reporting to Kulanihako’i High Monday to meet, plan and prepare for the welcoming of students Thursday. Lahainaluna students will remain enrolled at Lahainaluna and do not need to enroll at Kulanihako’i.
Students who want use the free school bus transportation from West Maui to their designated schools are encouraged to sign up in advance at bit.ly/WestMauiBusApp. Any student who has already submitted a bus application does not need to submit a new application.
Bus service for King Kamehameha III Elementary, Princess Nahi’ena’ena Elementary and Lahaina Intermediate students to their temporary designated schools — Wailuku Elementary or Kamali’i Elementary in Kihei, and Lokelani Intermediate in Kihei — began last week for students already enrolled in those designated schools.
Some changes to the bus schedules have been made since its start last week and take effect Thursday. Students are encouraged to arrive 10-15 minutes before the scheduled morning departing time to ensure they are checked-in beforehand, the DOE said.
Those attending Wailuku Elementary, the bus schedule is as follows:
• Kapalua Airport, depart 6:35 a.m., return 3:10 p.m., Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, return at 2:25 p.m. on Wednesdays.
• Whalers Village, depart 6:43 a.m., return 3 p.m., Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, return at 2:15 p.m. on Wednesdays.
For those attending Kamali’i Elementary:
• Kapalua Airport, depart 7:06 a.m., return 4:05 p.m., Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, return 2:25 p.m. on Wednesdays.
• Whalers Village, depart 7:15 a.m., return 3:55 p.m., Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, return at 2:15 p.m. on Wednesdays.
For those attending Lokelani Intermediate:
• Kapalua Airport, depart 7:05 a.m., return 4 p.m., Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, return 3:05 p.m. on Wednesdays.
• Whalers Village, 7:15 a.m., return 3:50 p.m., Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, return 2:55 p.m. on Wednesdays.
For those attending Kulanihako’i High:
• Kapalua Airport, depart 6:25 a.m., return 3 p.m.
• Whalers Village, 6:35 a.m., return 2:50 p.m.
• War Memorial Gym, 6:50 a.m., return 2:20 p.m.
The DOE will provide security personnel at pick-up and drop-off locations and will have DOE staff on board the bus to support students’ well-being.
